be adopted for Paris and other large cities in France, In
referring to this system Col. Purves in his paper says:-
....it has been adopted with success in
many European and other cities. The system
is undoubtedly an excellent: one".
This system it may be added has been adopted for Shanghai.
(39). If and when tenders are called for the equipments
proposed I suggest that all the manufacturers of "Strowger"
equipment on England, end the manufacturers of the "Rotary"
system be invited to furnish proposals.
Voltage of System.

(40). The Stendard Voltage adopted by the Fost Office for the
System "Strowger" system is 50. The Stenderd employed on the "Rotary"/
is practically the same viz:-46. I have considered whether it
would be advisable to adopt a lower voltage in this Colony, and
have come to the conclusion that the Standard Voltage should be
adhered to.
(41). With either the standard or a lower voltage a high degree
of insulation generally is necessary and suitable standards of
insulation for the various parts of the equipment and network
are laid down in the Ordinance, The dehumidifying plant will
take care of the exchange apparatus. For the upkeep in proper
condition of the distribution cables and leads and of the
Subscribers' instruments a regular and well organised system
of maintenance will be necessary.
(42). The whole of the apparatus should be of the best tropical quality and all cords on subscribers' instruments should be
specially waterproofed.
Summary of Recommendations.
(43). The recommendations contained in the foregoing report
mey be summarised as follows:-
(a) That an Automatic Exchange equipped for
7,000 lines be installed in the new premises in "Exchange Building" at Victoria as soon
